Two dozen conservative activists, including prominent new media personalities Michelle Malkin and Dana Loesch, joined Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation and John Hawkins and Tiffany Ruegner of Right Wing News, in signing a letter calling on “Republicans in the House of Representatives to elect someone other than John Boehner as Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
Members of the newly elected House of Representatives will meet in Washington on Tuesday to select a new Speaker of the House.
“In the four years Boehner has been Speaker,” the letter reads, “he has been nothing short of a disaster.”
The signatories have little good to say about Boehner.
“He has insulted conservatives; he’s a poor strategist; his word means nothing; he’s reluctant to fight and he has lost the trust of Republicans across America,” the letter says.
“As bad as things have been over the last four years,” they write, “in the last month they became even worse.”
After the Republican victories in November, “John Boehner surrendered and gave the Democrats almost everything they wanted in the so-called ‘Cromnibus’ bill rather than passing a short-term continuing resolution that would have allowed Republicans to tackle the issues in 2015 after they are in the majority.”
The letter sets forth more than a half a dozen credible alternatives to Boehner.
“A number of names have been floated as possible replacements. These include Marsha Blackburn, Trey Gowdy, Jim Jordan, Raúl Labrador, Louie Gohmert, Jeb Hensarling and even Ted Yoho.”
“Any of them would be an improvement over John Boehner,” the signatories wrote.
Both Yoho and Gohmert have publicly announced they are offering themselves as alternatives to Boehner for Speaker.
“Gohmert’s announcement over the weekend was a major shot in the battle to replace John Boehner as Speaker,” letter organizer Judson Phillips tells Breitbart News.
“The conservative wing of the GOP gets the message,” Phillips said. “People are fed up with John Boehner and Republicans who tell the voters one thing at home and do another in Washington.”
“Louie Gohmert, Dave Brat and some of the others who have said they will not vote for John Boehner understand how angry the base is. They also understand that if we have two more years of John Boehner leading the House Republicans, it will destroy the Republican Party and Republican control of the House,” Phillips concluded.
The rebellious Republicans need 29 votes against Boehner on Tuesday to send the vote for the Speaker in to a second round. ConservativeHQ.com estimates that with seven members publicly opposed to Boehner as of Monday morning, the rebellion needs to add twenty-two members to succeed on Tuesday.
