Exclusive–Sean Hannity: Every Republican Congressman Must Reconsider Boehner’s Cred After Scalise Scandal

Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, also a nationally syndicated radio host, is tripling down on his calls to demand new blood in House GOP leadership.

In the wake of Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) rebuffing his call to run against Speaker John Boehner after the white supremacy scandal that has rocked Boehner’s ally, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, Hannity is calling on every Republican member of the House of Representatives to reconsider whether Boehner is in fact an effective leader.

“Every Republican member needs to ask themselves if John Boehner is really the best person to lead the conservative movement at this important time in history,” Hannity said in an email to Breitbart News. “Are they voting for him as a leader or for the Committee assignments they have been promised? The American people expect and deserve bold and dynamic and inspiring leaders. The next 2 years are critical for the country.”

Hannity said that if Republicans return to conservative principles by rejecting Boehner and installing a replacement, they will be “rewarded” with political victories in 2016’s crucial presidential election.

“If Republicans return to conservative principles of balanced budgets, low taxes, secure borders, free market health care, and if they pursue energy independence with a vengeance they will be rewarded politically in 2016,” Hannity said. “And more importantly the country will [be] rewarded with jobs and prosperity.”

Hannity previously called Gowdy to challenge Boehner, but Gowdy’s office quickly disavowed any notions of such a move from the wildly popular South Carolina conservative in a statement from spokeswoman Amanda Duvall.

“Rep. Gowdy has said his time and attention will continue to be devoted to the work assigned to him,” Duvall said in an email in response to Hannity’s quote. “He is not interested in any leadership positions and believes one can have influence without the title.”

Duvall wouldn’t answer when asked whether Gowdy plans to vote for Boehner for Speaker on Jan. 6, and she also didn’t answer when asked for Gowdy’s thoughts on the Scalise scandal.

So Hannity had a specific response to Gowdy’s office’s non-answers on whether the South Carolinian would support Boehner. Hannity told Breitbart News:

If Trey Gowdy honestly believes that John Boehner is offering Republicans a governing vision of ‘bold colored differences’ that Reagan spoke of, then he should vote for him. But if Trey Gowdy is as uninspired and disappointed as many conservatives like myself are, he has an obligation as a public servant to say so, and more importantly for the sake of the country and the conservative movement to step up and fill this void. Now is the time. I doubt Trey or many conservatives are inspired by Boehner and his Cromnibus or Obamacare funding.

Hannity also called on House Financial Services Committee chairman Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) to present himself as a challenger to Boehner. Hensarling, a former chairman of the Republican Study Committee and a Texas conservative with establishment credentials, has long been talked about as a potential Boehner opponent.

“And if not Trey how about Hensarling?” Hannity said.

Hensarling’s spokeswoman, Sarah Rozier, has not responded to a request for comment from Breitbart News in response to Hannity’s call for him to run against Boehner.
