House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) must call on Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) to resign.
According to reports, Grimm will plead guilty to federal tax evasion Tuesday.
“Now that the election is over, Congressman Grimm is finally admitting the truth to his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement Tuesday.
The New York congressman was reelected by a healthy margin in November, despite facing a 20-count indictment stemming from fraudulent activity he allegedly engaged in to lower his taxes while running a Manhattan restaurant.
“Clearly, Speaker Boehner must insist that Congressman Grimm resign immediately,” Pelosi stressed.
House Republican leadership has not publicly weighed in on whether Grimm should resign in light of the expected guilty plea.
