From his vacation get away in Hawaii, President Obama made a phone call to New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to offer his “full support” after the weekend shooting of two New York City officers. The President then went off to play golf, failing to make a similar call to embattled New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
According to the White House, Obama gave Commissioner Bratton a call on Sunday afternoon to offer “his full support for any possible assistance in the days and weeks ahead.”
But immediately after he finished speaking to the commish, the White House reported that Obama went out for a shortened round of golf and a visit to the beach at Bellows Air Force Base on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Stunning is the lack of any report that Obama called New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio who has taken heavy criticism for having sided with anti-cop protesters and against his own police department since the Eric Garner decision was released earlier this month.
Relations between rank and file NYPD officers and the Mayor have soured so badly that officers have been seen purposefully turning their backs on him as he walked past them.
It seems that Mayor de Blasio is so desperate to take the heat off himself that, on Monday, he lashed out at the media for “enabling” conflict in the Big Apple.
