New York state Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C,I-Brooklyn/Staten Island) criticized New York Mayor Bill de Blasio for never condemning the vile anti-cop protests that erupted after grand juries in Ferguson and New York did not indict the officers involved in the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, respectively.
Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 a day after two NYPD officers were executed in retaliation for Garner’s death, Malliotakis criticized de Blasio’s for his “sincere lack of leadership” and not condemning marchers who protested and chanted “we want dead cops now” while they shut down highways and took over bridges throughout the city.
She said that though Americans have a right to assemble and protest, they can’t incite violence. She reiterated that there has been “no condemnation” of the protests from de Blasio and other activist leaders.
Saying she was heartbroken for the police officers, Malliotakis told Breitbart News Executive Chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon that “there’s a sadness among them” because many believe city leaders “don’t respect and don’t care for them and don’t appreciate them.”
“Our police officers need support,” she declared.
Malliotakis noted that police officers risk their lives during every shift, and officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were cold-bloodedly executed while on a counter-terrorism assignment to protect New Yorkers of all backgrounds.
She said de Blasio only makes “polarizing statements” instead of trying to bring together law enforcement officers and community leaders to work together before noting that the city council often seems intent on wanting to tie the hands of the police force by trying to require things like “written consent” from people before they are searched.
“What kind of nonsense is this?” she asked, nothing that such actions are “not the way to keep us safe.”
Immediately after officers Liu and Ramos were murdered, Malliotakis released a statement on Saturday evening, declaring that “extreme anti-police sentiment and public unruliness have been permitted to fester for far too long.”
“I am horrified that two of our police officers were fatally shot today in Brooklyn. My heart breaks for their families, their NYPD family, and our entire city, which appears to have descended dangerously close to turmoil,” she said on Saturday. “It is well past the time for our mayor and citywide leaders to call for a return to order in our streets, and take a hard stance that that lawlessness and aggression towards police officers will not be tolerated. Extreme anti-police sentiment and public unruliness have been permitted to fester for far too long.”
