White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest won’t rule out a Washington visit by Cuban President Raul Castro, although he did dismiss the idea as a “hypothetical.”
During the press briefing, Earnest pointed out that President Obama had welcomed leaders from countries with questionable human rights records such as China and Burma.
“For that reason I would not rule out a visit from President Castro,” he concluded.
Earnest added that hosting dictators was sometimes a good way to “shine a spotlight” on their country’s human rights violations.
