Boehner Recognizes Rep. John Dingell After Cromnibus Vote: ‘Thank You And Merry Christmas’

On the floor of the House of Representatives, leaders from both parties took a moment to recognize retiring Democratic Rep. John Dingell’s final vote — for the cromnibus bill.

Dingell, from Michigan, is a 59-year veteran of the House, and has served with one-quarter of all members of the House in history and was the focus point of a bi-partisan moment on the floor after the late-night passage of the controversial bill.

After House Democratic whip Steny Hoyer recognized Dingel’s last vote, House Speaker John Boehner stood up to do the same.

“Let me add my words of congratulations to our good friend John Dingell, whose been a mentor to members of both sides of the aisle and has carried more institutional history than anyone here,” he said. “My job tonight is to say, ‘Thank you, and Merry Christmas.'”
