As Republicans explore a short term continuing resolution for the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Jeh Johnson asserted that it would be bad for the agency.
“I know that there are some contemplating some form of short term CR for the Department of Homeland Security,” he said during a House Homeland Security hearing on Tuesday morning. “That is in my judgement a very bad idea for Homeland Security.”
Johnson pointed out that during a C.R. he would not be able to hire additional secret service agents for candidates as the nation approached another presidential election or fund a detention center in Texas.
“I need that help of Congress to support and build upon border security which I believe all of you support,” he said, urging Congress to pass a full appropriations bill.
