FAA Releasing Safety Rules for Growing Number of Drone Users

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is looking to revise safety rules for the growing number of private drone users as the number of near misses between unmanned drones and planes have increased.

In a recent CNN interview, FAA chief Michael Huerta called drones a serious security risk and reported that the agency is receiving up to 25 cases a month of drones flying above the 400-foot-high operations limit. Some drones, Huerta said, are even seen above 2,000 feet.

The FAA has also received 193 reports of drones breaking the security perimeter around sports venues.

The agency has not approved drones for commercial use and reported that it is looking over its current safety guidelines for use of the unmanned devices.
