Israeli Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch says gun control will be eased following the November 18 terror attack against worshipers at a synagogue in North Jerusalem, according to news reports. He wants to make it easier for Israelis to carry weapons for self-defense.
The Jerusalem Post reports that four people were killed by two Palestinian attackers, who were carrying a pistol and an axe, and were both eventually shot dead by police. Three of the victims had dual US-Israeli citizenship, and the fourth held Israeli-British status.
Following the attack Aharonovitch said, “In the coming hours, I will ease controls on carrying weapons.”
According to the Times of Israel, Aharonovitch has also instructed “instructed synagogues to place security guards at their entrances.”
AP reports that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to “respond harshly” to the attack, which he described as “the cruel murder of Jews who came to pray…[but] were killed by despicable murderers.”
