A new Gallup poll finds that Americans favor Republicans determining the nation’s future trajectory over President Barack Obama by 17 percentage points.
When asked, “Who do you want to have more influence over the direction the nation takes in the next year–Barack Obama or the Republicans in Congress?” 53% of Americans answered Republicans in Congress versus just 36% who chose Obama.
The poll’s findings are notable in that they more than double the 8% edge Republicans held on the same question in 2010.
“The midterm election provided a clear signal as to which party voters want to control Congress,” concludes Gallup.
