On Sunday, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said Mitt Romney is in “never never land” on amnesty, blasting the establishment Republican for declaring two days before the midterm elections that Republicans would pass an amnesty bill if they win back Congress.
“Where the heck have these GOP establishment types been during this election season? GOP Senate candidates are promising to do everything in their power to stop Obama’s lawlessness, including his unjust amnesty that Americans do not support,” Palin exclusively told Breitbart News. “Governor Romney is busy promoting some decent policies; perhaps that’s why he clearly hasn’t followed today’s races because every Republican is campaigning against amnesty and every Democrat gunning for the Senate is campaigning for it. With all due respect, Governor Romney is in ‘never never land’ on this one.”
Palin, who has championed American workers against the bipartisan permanent political class that has always wanted massive amnesty legislation, added that “every Senate Democrat candidate who voted for or supports Obama’s amnesty, which will erase America’s middle class, must answer for it in Tuesday’s election.”
“Voters have one chance to stop them. Don’t let them get away with their complicity to Obama’s lawlessness,” Palin told Breitbart News. “Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty will radically erode American sovereignty, and Harry Reid and his lemmings are determined to protect Obama’s amnesty anyway. We can’t block funding for Obama’s failed policies including amnesty unless we dispatch Harry Reid. This is precisely why constitutional conservatives must win on Tuesday, meaning no votes for U.S. Senate or House candidates of the duped and dense Democrat persuasion.”
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Romney, who is viewed as the current North Star of the “pale pastels” GOP establishment, said Republicans would get amnesty legislation “done” if they win back Congress on Tuesday.
“You’re going to see a provision first of all to secure the border, second of all, to deal with those who have come here illegally and, third, to make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent to many people who do want to come here illegally. That’s going to happen,” Romney said. “You’re going to see a bill actually reach the desk of the president, if we finally have someone besides Harry Reid sitting in the Senate.”
Romney said that he thought “Republicans in the House were looking at what was coming from the Senate saying, ‘you know what? We can do better if we pick up more seats in the Senate.'”
“So, we’re going to get it done, I think,” he added. Establishment Republicans like Jeb Bush have also said Republicans should pass amnesty legislation if they win back Congress even though studies have shown that Republicans can win elections in 2014 and beyond without passing massive amnesty legislation.
Romney made his remarks even though Republicans may take back Congress because Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama’s lawlessness on illegal immigration and his promises of more executive amnesty for illegal immigrants. For instance, Republican New Hampshire Senate candidate Scott Brown may defeat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) because of the illegal immigration issue. Brown, who was trailing Shaheen by double digits, surged after focusing on illegal immigration.
A recent Fox News poll found that illegal immigration is Obama’s worst issue going into the midterms, which explains why Senate Democrats begged Obama to delay his executive amnesty until after the midterm elections. And multiple national polls have found that a plurality of voters would be “less likely” to vote for candidates who support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Palin earlier called for Obama’s impeachment because of his lawlessness on illegal immigration that only hurts American workers–legal immigrants and U.S.-born. In a Breitbart News op-ed this year, Palin blasted the “wealthy bipartisan elite, who want cheap foreign labor and can afford for themselves the best ‘border security’ money can buy in their own exclusive communities,” for not caring that illegal immigration is screwing “American workers – native-born and wonderful legal immigrants of all races, backgrounds, and political parties.”
