The North Carolina Republican Party announced Thursday it has filed a complaint with the State Board of Elections and state attorney general following the release of a video allegedly showing Democratic campaign workers encouraging an illegal immigrant to vote.
“It is illegal for someone who is not a U.S. citizen to vote in North Carolina, and if this report is true, the supporters of the North Carolina Democratic Party are engaged in a troubling pattern of voter fraud in an attempt to help Senator Kay Hagan,” North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope said Thursday.
Thursday morning the conservative activist James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas released a new video showing Democratic campaign workers appearing to assist an individual posing as an illegal immigrant from Brazil cast a ballot for Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC).
“To protect the integrity of the ballot box and our representative democracy, the state board and the attorney general owe the people of North Carolina a swift and thorough investigation,” Pope said.
The State Board of Elections did not immediately respond to Breitbart News’ requests for comment.
The board recently audited its voting rolls and found that more than 1,400 non-citizens were registered to vote. The SBOE said then it was “working to ensure that no ballot cast by a non-citizen will count in this or any future election.”
