It appears that Mike Rounds is escaping the sudden renewed interest from Democrats and the media as a new public poll shows him leading his opponents by 9 points.
A new Argus Leader/KELO-TV poll of likely voters shows Rounds leading with 42 percent support. His Democratic opponent, Rick Weiland, is at 33 percent, while independent candidated Larry Pressler is at 13 percent.
Rounds’ opponents have been attacking him for the EB-5 investigation, but it’s damage to his candidacy appears to be limited.
Only 21 percent of respondents said that the issue had a major effect on their voting decision – 45 percent said that it had “no effect” on their vote.
Earlier in the month, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee surprised the political world, by sinking $1 million of negative advertising into the state.
It appears that Sen. Harry Reid might actually be right about this race.
