President George W. Bush won Colorado twice and the state had Republican senators throughout the 1990s. But in recent years liberal activists have won a series of victories at the state and federal level, including winning the governor’s mansion, the state legislature, both of its U.S. Senate seats, and victories for President Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The story behind this transformation is told in Rocky Mountain Heist, a documentary that examines how Colorado turned blue announced Thursday by Citizens United Productions President David N. Bossie. Native Coloradan and conservative commentator Michelle Malkin hosts the film, which was written and directed by Jason Killian Meath.

The documentary unmasks the “Gang of Four,” a group of cryptic millionaire and billionaire leftists who effectively hijacked Colorado’s political landscape. The four, who were among Colorado’s wealthiest residents, were able to enact their liberal vision for the state in a very short amount of time.

Bossie told Breitbart News, “I was floored by the motivations and seriousness that allowed a few people to change one state. Conservatives across the country need to understand what they’re dealing with so they don’t get caught off guard like the folks in Colorado did.”

Bossie hopes the film will help residents around the nation prevent their home states from taking a similar path to Colorado.

“If you understand what they’re doing, there can be a defense against it,” he said said. “At least there will be a fight against it instead of having it happen and then wondering after, ‘How did that happen?’ Rocky Mountain Heist is an important film to educate people about what the left is wiling to do.”

Malkin was inspired to come on board after experiencing Colorado’s transformation firsthand.

“I have been a proud resident of Colorado for six years now,” Malkin told Breitbart News. “When I first got here you could already see some of the signs of the purpling of Colorado. At the time I did not know the back story of the Gang of Four and the very meticulously laid out plans that these shady leftwing millionaires and billionaires had for this state.”

Malkin added that the very things which attracted me to Colorado — like the low taxes, entrepreneurial spirit — are the antithesis of the Gang of Four.

“What the Gang of Four did was marshal all of the resources of wealthy progressives, hid in back rooms, and were able to pick off republicans who had no idea what was coming,” she continued. “Even a once reliable red meat state like Colorado can turn like this if you have the commitment and the money.”

“Unfortunately, the State of Colorado is now a perfect example of President Obama’s promise to ‘fundamentally transform America,'” Citizens United said in a press release announcing the film. “The most disturbing aspect of this Colorado ‘heist’ is this model is being replicated across other reliably Red states such as Virginia and Texas – if successful, the results could be catastrophic for America as a nation.”

Although the left attempted to force Citizens United to disclose the source of funding for the film, earlier this week the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the group deserves the same protections and privacy as other media sources.

“They unanimously said that we don’t have to disclose because we are the media,” Bossie said.

“For conservative media, this ruling is important,” Malkin said. “This is a very deeply personal project for me. I am honored to have been able to work with Citizens United.”

Rocky Mountain Heist is currently available for purchase online. The film will additionally be broadcast on television stations across the country.

“We want to affect change in Colorado in the short term by educating the folks there,” Bossie said. “But we also want to sound the alarm nationwide. Conservatives and Americans across the country need to pay attention to whats going on in their backyards.”
