Crossroads GPS is out with a new ad blasting Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) for her recent admission that she missed Armed Services committee hearing on ISIS for a New York City fundraiser.
The ad comes as her Republican opponent, state House Speaker Thom Tillis, has been taking the incumbent to task for that absence and her poor attendance record on the committee — missing more than half of the Armed Services Committee hearings over the last two years.
Crossroads’ new ad focuses on the barbarism and danger of ISIS and follows it up with relatively lengthy footage of Hagan stiltedly explaining to reporters why she missed an Armed Services Committee hearing for a fundraiser.
“You know, there was one. And what had happened at that hearing, it was scheduled early in the day, and then votes were scheduled, and then that hearing had to be postponed later that day. So yes, I did miss that one,” Hagan said following Tuesday’s debate, footage of which appears in the ad.
The ad concludes with the voiceover summarizing, “Hagan skipped a hearing for a fundraiser.”
According to the Weekly Standard, Crossroads made a $5.1 million ad buy for the month of October featuring this ad and another one charging that Hagan votes with Obama 95 percent of the time.
