The police chief in Warwick, Rhode Island said Wednesday that on Tuesday police received an anonymous threat to elementary school children in three communities that mentioned beheading.
As local Connecticut CBS affiliate WTIC 1080 and Ben Shapiro’s Truth Revolt reported, Col. Steven McCartney said the threat specified that “beheading is planned,” and targeted children in Warwick, Cranston, and Johnston. McCartney referred to the nature of the threat as chilling.
“There was a specific mention of elementary schools in this letter, the other thing which was the specific type of threat, which was beheading, is planned,” McCartney told WPRO-AM.
Police are providing coverage at every school in all three communities through Friday. Several parents, however, decided to keep their children at home.
Cranston Superintendent Judith Lundsten said recess was canceled in her district, and students are entering the schools immediately upon arrival.
The threat’s validity is still being determined.
