A conservative group spoofing a video contest sponsored by MoveOn.or and MayDay.us is improbably leading in votes.
The contest, organized by MayDay in partnership with MoveOn and other liberal groups, is aimed at finding a video about reducing “the corrupting influence of money in politics” that could air on national television.
“Our all-star panel of judges – George Takei, Jason Alexander, Shepard Fairey, Zephyr Teachout, Marianne Williamson, Baratunde Thurston, Anna Galland and Cenk Uygur – will review the top entries and select the winners,” the contest page says.
The group, American Commitment, entered an ad about liberal billionaire Tom Steyer’s influence on the Iowa Senate race. Steyer is backing Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley.
The contest page shows the ad is currently winning with 275 votes, compared to 88 for the second-ranking entry.
There are indications MayDay.us, a liberal super PAC founded by Napster co-founder Sean Parker, may not end up accepting the bid, however. “We reserve the right to take down any content deemed by us to be off topic or inappropriate,” the contest rules say.
