In interview excerpts not aired on 60 Minutes on Sunday, President Obama acknowledged that Syria became “ground zero” for Islamic State terrorists, pointing out that young people around the world were increasingly recruited by the group.
Part of their success, he explained, was a result of a social media strategy.
Obama added that a “generational change” was needed in the Middle East, as many young people were poor and uneducated, making them recruitment targets for ideological extremists.
