WASHINGTON, D.C.–House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi gave a strong statement of support for Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Thursday, reacting to a recent report highlighting harsh Democratic criticism of her tenure as DNC head.
“Yes, of course I support her,” Pelosi told reporters.
Wednesday, Politico ran a report detailing a rash of problems Democrats–from the White House to the Congress–causing them to lose confidence in her leadership abilities.
According to Pelosi, however, the DNC chairwoman continues to have wide support.
“Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a wonderful, respected leader in the Congress. She has all of our support. I don’t understand what is going on in the press on that but I do understand she is a valued leader here in Congress. We all support her,” she added.
Earlier in the day, White House Press Sec. Josh Earnest also offered a defense of Wasserman Schultz.
“Based on the strong track record of leadership that she has already demonstrated at the DNC, the president has strong confidence in her ability to lead that organization,” Earnest said when asked if the White House had “complete confidence” in her leadership.
