White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest kept his cards close to the vest about President Obama’s expected executive actions on immigration Monday.
“I don’t really have an update in terms of his process,” Earnest said when asked about the current status of the President’s plans to take executive action on immigration reform.
According to Earnest, since it is still summer it is not yet time for Obama to announce his executive action.
“As you know we’ve said the end of the summer and while the President has returned from Martha’s Vineyard, and it a beautiful 80 degree day here in Washington, it actually still is technically the summer,” he said.
“So, we’re not to the end of it yet, but when we get there we’ll probably have some news to make on immigration,” he added.
Reports have indicated that Obama could move to unilaterally legalize some 5 million undocumented immigrants.
Autumn is generally regarded as beginning in September — one week from today — in the Northern Hemisphere. In 2014, the autumnal equinox, when the sun sets 12 hours after it rises, occurs on Sept. 22.
