Wesley Lowery, the Washington Post reporter briefly arrested Wednesday night in Ferguson, MO, while covering the civil unrest that followed the police shooting of Michael Brown, slammed Joe Scarborough as “smug” after the MSNBC host criticized him and another arrested reporter for not doing what the police asked.
During a phone interview with the reporter, CNN’s Kate Bolduan asked Lowery to respond to Scarborough’s comments about his arrest, which Bolduan described as, “‘You should’ve listened to the police and you should’ve just moved on.’ Was that a possibility?”
Lowery didn’t answer the question of whether or not that was a possibility, but he did lash out:
“Well I would invite Joe Scarborough to come to Ferguson and get out of 30 Rock where he’s sitting there sipping his Starbucks smugly; I’d invite him to come down here to talk to the residents of Ferguson where I’ve been since Monday afternoon having teargas shot at me, having rubber bullet shot at me … I would invite Joe Scarborough down here to do some reporting on the ground, and then maybe we can have an educated conversation about what’s happening here. … Let me be clear about this, I have little patience for talking heads. … Instead of getting more reporters on the ground we have people like Joe Scarborough running their mouth who have no idea what they’re talking about.”
Lowery never answered whether or not it would have been possible to avoid arrest by doing what the police officer asked of him.
