The New York Times is reporting that Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, who likely harbors thoughts of a 2016 presidential run, traveled to Israel recently.
Cuomo told Reuven Rivlin, Israel’s president, “We know you’re going through a very difficult time, and that’s precisely why we are here.”
Cuomo met with Prime Minister Netanyahu, who told him, “I thank you for coming here and standing on the right side of the moral divide.”
Mr. Cuomo visited a pizza parlor in Jerusalem and met with students from New York. He gave them baseball caps with the “I ♥ NY” logo, and he asked, “How does it feel on the ground when all of this is going on? Can you feel it? Can you tell?”
One student was pleased Cuomo visited. She said, “I think it’s great that somebody is taking a stand for Israel.”
New York representatives have been visiting Israel since the Israel-Hamas war started, including former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Democratic Representative Steve Israel. GOP Representative Peter King is scheduled to visit later in August.
