President Obama signaled support for putting the faces of more women on American money during a speech in Kansas City on Wednesday.
“Last week a young girl wrote to ask me why aren’t there any women on our currency,” Obama said.
Obama noted that the author of the letter gave him a list of women who could eventually replace the presidents and famous Americans currently featured on coins and dollar bills.
“Then she gave me like a long list of possible women to put on our dollar bills and quarters and stuff, which I thought was a pretty good idea,” he said.
In 1979, the U.S. Mint created a Susan B. Anthony dollar coin for circulation. In 1999, they minted a dollar coin featuring Sacagawea.
