John Fund, national affairs correspondent for National Review Online, told Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon that if President Obama attempts via executive order to grant amnesty to eight million illegal aliens “it would be the equivalent of ritual political suicide and most political parties don’t do that.”
Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Radio channel 125, the conservative Washington insider, former writer for The Wall Street Journal, The American Spectator, and frequent contributor to Breitbart News argued that Obama is executing a classic “bait and switch.” Fund contends that the administration wants “conservatives to go crazy talking about impeachment and amnesty, driving them up the wall with selective leaks, just like they did with the birther issue. This is whack-a-mole.”
The truth is, according to Fund, that “Democrats in congress would not allow Obama to have that kind of sweeping amnesty.” The veteran journalist believes that kind of an amnesty would ruin the Democratic Party for the 2014 mid-term elections. “It would say to every American of working age, ‘we don’t care about you ever getting a job again because we are just allowing a bunch of undocumented aliens, illegal immigrants and anybody that happens to be on the right side of the border a chance at a job, work permits, work authorization, and you’re out of luck because you are just a sap that happens to be born in this country,'” he explained.
Fund is the co-author of a new book about U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s justice department titled Obama’s Enforcer, written with Hans A. von Spakovsky. Holder famously said in the beginning of his tenure that “America was a nation full of cowards.” Fund and Spakovsky outline in their book that Holder is the most liberal AG in the modern era and how “he has also liberally bent the rule of law and established internal practices that harm the cause of justice. His tenure at the Justice Department has been marked by one scandal after another and abusive behavior by Justice Department lawyers in unwarranted, ideologically driven prosecutions.”
Fund quipped that one of the reason Eric Holder does not want to leave office is because his new occupation would be “permanent witness.” According to Fund, Holder would no longer have the ability to dodge all the subpoenas and requests for depositions that he now can as the Attorney General. Fund points out that Holder was the first Attorney General in the history of the nation to be held in contempt of congress and he ignored that citation.
