Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted Senate Democrats for their effort to overturn the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision by altering the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Cruz called the political move by Senate Democrats “one of the saddest developments in the Senate.”

Highlighting the Obama administration’s case against the Little Sisters of the Poor and the opposition to the bill by the United Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cruz questioned Democrats for waging war against the Catholic Church.

Citing former Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and former president John Kennedy on the importance of religious freedom, Cruz challenged Democrats to defend Catholicism.

Cruz insisted that Republicans were not interested in restricting access to contraception, in spite of Democrats’ politicizing the issue.

Cruz also alluded to his own use of contraception during his speech.
