On Tuesday, Pat Buchanan warned that America risks potential breakup if it continues to allow illegal immigrants to flood across its border.
Appearing on the Laura Ingraham Show, Buchanan said that there are “billions of people who live in repressive regimes and abject poverty,” and America cannot take care of everybody.
“We’re going to cease to be one nation and one people,” he said. “This country is facing balkanization and potential breakup.”
At least 57,000 illegal immigrant children have unlawfully entered the country since October of last year, and federal officials expect 150,000 more to do so next fiscal year. Buchanan said if the United States has open borders and “if everyone has a right to come to the United States because of the conditions at home,” then “you’re going to end up with no country, you’re going to end up with no America that is recognizable.”
“You can see this happening in Europe right now,” he told guest host Raymond Arroyo. “I feel sorry for these people from the Middle East, sub Sahara Africa, and the Arab countries of Africa, but if they come across in those numbers it’s going to be an Islamic continent.”
Buchanan, who just published The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose from Defeat to Create the New Majority, also accused the Mexican government of “colluding in sending these kids into the United States” and said the Obama administration needed to be tougher on Mexico and withhold foreign aid from Central American nations if they continue to encourage migrants to go to America.
