Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to the floor of the Senate Wednesday to denounce President Obama’s failure to address the border crisis although he was traveling to Texas for fundraising events.

Cruz pointed out that Obama was correct in describing the situation as a “humanitarian disaster” but reminded his Senate colleagues that it was a “disaster of the President’s own making,” citing estimates that up to 90,000 unaccompanied minors would enter the United States this year.

He said that White House claims of violence in South American countries as a reason for their mass exodus was “a complete red herring,” arguing that the sudden influx of children immigrants signaled a reaction to President Obama’s 2012 decision to stop deporting illegal immigrants.
