Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) criticized President Obama for sending the wrong message to illegal immigrants in his budget request to Congress.
Flake, a member of the Senate “Gang of Eight” supporting immigration reform, explained in an interview with PBS anchor Gwen Ifill that a majority of the funding would go to the Department of Health and Human Services, not for the purpose of securing the border.
In spite of efforts to place children with family members or guardians, Flake pointed out that 90 percent of the children failed to appear in court afterwards.
HHS, he explained, was failing to provide “due diligence” with the cases.
Instead, Flake suggested that the United States start deporting the children, to send the right message to parents.
