Luis Gutierrez: We've Given Obama Four-Page Wish List of Executive Actions

A day after President Barack Obama announced that, on his own, he would try to change as many of the nation’s immigration laws as he can, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) said he gave the President a wish list of executive actions.

Appearing on Tuesday’s Morning Joe, Gutierrez said that he and other pro-amnesty advocates gave Obama a “four-page memorandum of different things within the law that he can do” with executive actions.

Saying that he expects Obama to be “broad, expansive, and generous” with his use of executive action, Gutierrez suggested that Obama grant temporary amnesty and work permits to the parents of illegal immigrant children as Obama did in 2010 with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program for certain DREAMers. To date, that program has benefited at least 560,000 illegal immigrant children. He said it would be in the “national interest” to do so.

Gutierrez argued that Obama has the legal authority to “heal and put in a safe harbor millions” of illegal immigrant children until Congress acts on amnesty.
