One Dead, 35 Wounded in Typical Chicago Weekend Violence

With the weekend behind us, it is time once again to tally up the carnage in the Windy City, a city with some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. This time only one person was killed, but an additional 35 were wounded.

Since the nicer weather finally beat back this year’s harsh Winter, an average of three people have been killed each weekend in street violence in the city. This weekend citizens are thankful that only one person died during Saturday and Sunday. But the toll of the wounded was still quite high.

A 42-year-old man, Ronnie Amos, was shot and killed just before 9AM on Sunday morning on the 3600 block of West Chicago Avenue. He was the only death over the weekend.

However, the toll of the wounded started on Saturday morning as some drifted from the gay pride parade downtown. Two women were shot at Montrose Beach on Lake Michigan, a site where city residents swim in the lake.

As the hours of the weekend ticked by, the total eventually reached 35 wounded.

Meanwhile, first year Congresswoman Robin Kelly of Chicago issued a “report” on gun violence with certain recommendations to address violence in cities such as Chicago.

One of her “solutions” is to change laws so that victims of violence can sue gun manufacturers. Another is to give courts sweeping powers to declare people “dangerous” so that police may take away their Second Amendment rights.
