Since the brutal Winter finally came to a close another sort of brutality has engulfed the Windy City. The brutality of its gangs have bled the city every weekend since the cold waned and this weekend has been no different with a tally of 5 dead and 19 more injured during Saturday and Sunday.
Among those killed was a 15-year-old boy. He was among upwards of 24 shot since Friday according to Chicago’s NBC affiliate.
Others killed were a 23-year-old man and three other men of unreported ages and from Saturday evening to Sunday evening at lest eight were shot.
There have been so many shootings in Chicago that city hospitals are asking the public to step up their donation of blood to help save the wounded.
Meanwhile, the state legislature is still investigating a failed “anti-violence program” paid for with $55 million in state tax dollars spent by Governor Pat Quinn just prior to his 2010 re-election.
Critics claim that the wasted money was a secret election slush fund and that the money spent has done nothing to alleviate violence in the city. With the death toll rising each weekend, the critics appear correct.
