Exiting the House leadership elections, today Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) said that he had no regrets after running for House Majority Whip.
Rep. Steve Scalise won the election on the first ballot, beating Stutzman and Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) ending what some thought would be a tumultuous race. Surprised Republicans cheered and clapped in the House meeting room when it was clear that Scalise had won.
He said that neither Scalise nor Roskam asked him to exit the three way race.
Stutzman congratulated Scalise, telling reporters that he looked forward to working with him in the House.
Stutzman declined to say whether or not he was interested in running for the Chair of the Republican Study Committee, in wake of Scalise’s absence.
