President Obama’s State Department is holding a conference about the ecological threats facing the world’s oceans, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will be a featured speaker.
Upon the announcement of the actor’s participation in the Our Ocean conference, Secretary of State John Kerry said, “I’m pleased that Leo DiCaprio is lending his powerful voice to our call to action to work together to protect the world’s ocean.”
DiCaprio was invited due to his work with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, an organization “dedicated to protecting Earth’s last wild places and fostering a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.”
The same week that DiCaprio was lauded by the Department of State for his efforts to save the earth, The Wolf of Wall Street actor was celebrating the World Cup by partying in the world’s fifth-largest yacht, owned by a wealthy oil sheikh.
The 482-foot Topaz, worth $6,788,400, is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. Al Nahyan also owns Britain’s Manchester City F.C.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time the environmentally conscious actor has cruised the oceans partying on the fuel-guzzling yacht.
“In April this year, Leo teamed up with Jamie Foxx and Orlando Bloom to host an 80s themed party on the Topaz in New York,” the Daily Mail reported.
