On June 13 Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper (D) told a gathering of Sheriff’s that he did not speak to Michael Bloomberg during his push for gun control in Colorado in 2013. On June 16 Hickenlooper’s office said the governor “spoke carelessly” to the sheriffs and that he had, in fact, talked with Bloomberg during the time in question.
According to Fox 31 Denver, on June 13 “Weld County Sheriff John Cooke asked Hickelooper why he didn’t listen to the state’s law enforcement officers as much as he did to Bloomberg.”
Hickenlooper responded: “Well, let’s, let’s stick to the facts. I never talked to Mayor Bloomberg. I…Again, that’s been out in the press and all this stuff. Just for the record. Yes, I met Mayor Bloomberg when I was a mayor, and I know him, uh, I think he’s a pretty good mayor.”
On June 15 The Complete Colorado reported they had obtained Hickenlooper’s phone records and that the governor had in fact talked to Bloomberg during the gun control push.
On June 16 Hickenlooper spokesman Eric Brown said: “The governor often jokes about his ability to put his foot in his mouth, because he does. It is well established that Governor Hickenlooper spoke with Mayor Bloomberg…In fact, the governor released phone records on this matter.”
