Chicago usually erupts in violence every weekend, but this weekend extended into Monday when a man killed two before turning his gun on himself. The grand total between Friday evening and Monday came in at 7 dead and a whopping 28 wounded.
The weekend’s first death occurred just before 2:00 p.m. on Friday when an 18-year-old Hispanic man was found shot several times in the torso and back. Police were called by local residents who heard gun fire and, upon arriving on the scene, found the young man dead.
Later that day a 22-year-old woman was killed in what police reported as a “domestic incident.”
As Saturday morning dawned, two were shot and one killed before 10:00 a.m., and by Sunday one more was killed. The total of those wounded reached upwards to a shocking 26 victims.
Yet the violence wasn’t done. Monday a man shot and killed two before committing suicide during another domestic incident.
Chicago Police report that a man began arguing with his girlfriend shortly before 9:00 a.m. on the city’s southwest side. The killer, Edward Prince, 36, pulled a gun and shot Laquisha Hickman, 37, and her friend Nicole Loving, 23.
Prince then attacked his uncle and shot his cousin in the leg; the latter two managed to escape the home.
The incident escalated after police arrived. It quickly turned into a hostage situation, with Prince holding several family children to keep police at bay. None of the children were harmed during the brief standoff.
Shortly after the arrival of police, though, Prince fatally shot himself.
