Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler is still gunning for the top spot in the Republican primary to challenge Democratic Governor John Hickenlooper in 2014 – and slipping in a negative ad to assist him.
A new ad reminds Colorado voters that his Republican opponents have losing records when running for statewide office.
Scott Gessler wants to portray himself as the modern Colorado conservative and reminds voters that Beauprez and Tancredo lost against Democrats.
Beauprez lost in an election year that favored Democrats across the nation, and Tancredo divided conservatives by running as a Constitutional Party candidate against a flawed Republican opponent.
Gessler is claiming momentum in the race, after outperforming his opponents in two fundraising periods.
But Tancredo has managed to raise the most money in the race – a total of $751,722.
Although Beauprez has received the endorsements of Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, he has struggled to raise money.
Since entering the race, Beauprez has lent $320,000 of his own money to his campaign.
