Retired Air Force General Bentley Rayburn is challenging sitting Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO-5) in the Colorado primaries and drawing fire from gun control proponents for announcing plans to give away an AR-15 at a campaign event.
According to KRDO.com, Rayburn will give away the AR-15 on June 7. This has prompted “gun control advocate” Christy Le Lait to cry foul.
Le Lait was the campaign manager who oversaw former state Senator John Morse’s (D-Colo. Springs) failed campaign in the 2013 recall elections. She says Rayburn should stop and think that “maybe bringing guns into our community is not the answer.”
But Rayburn says, “Citizens who deserve to be able to own their own weapons for their protection or for hunting or for any other valid reason ought to be able to have the right to do so.”
He added, “The folks who want to grab our guns are focused on taking away guns from private citizens who are not the problem.”
