On May 20 a gun rights advocate who made a name for himself by interrupting Mark Kelly’s gun control speech before the Oregon legislature won the GOP primary to run for the Oregon legislature.

The gun rights advocate, Casey Runyan, “interrupted a hearing where Kelly, the husband of former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, testified in support of [expanded background checks].”

The expanded background checks never reached a floor vote and now Runyan is running for Congress.

According to Oregonlive.com, Runyan won the primary by 14 votes. Narrowly beating out Jason Payne, “the Coos County Republican Chairman.” The margin of victory is large enough to avoid a recount.

This means Runyan will run against “first-term Rep. Caddy McKeown (D-Coos Bay)” in November.
