House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced the selection of five Democrats to the Benghazi investigative committee.
Pelosi explained that Democrats needed to be part of the committee to make sure that the investigation was honest and fair even though she denounced it as a “partisan exercise.”
The committee will be led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) who was nominated by Speaker John Boehner to head up the investigation.
The Democrats solemnly signaled during a press conference with Pelosi on Wedensday that they believed the committee was not needed, but took the responsibility seriously.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) was included on the panel although he described it as a “colossal waste of time” on Fox News Sunday.
He added that Democrats needed to be involved to make sure that the committee “doesn’t become a circus.”
Pelosi also named Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), Linda T. Sanchez (D-CA), and Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).
