A Democratic lawmaker who said on video that “we’ve proved communismworks” says he didn’t actually mean that. Rep. Joe Garcia (D-FL)told Breitbart News “I’ve spent my entire life fighting communism”and the idea he believes it works is “absurd on its face.”
His point was that the U.S. is “blowing money just like the Communists”on border security.
The Daily Caller reported the Florida Democrat made the communismcomment during a Google hangout that happened last week when hetalked with immigration reform supporters.
“Let me give you an example, the kind of money we’ve poured in,” hesaid. “So the most dangerous — sorry, the safest city in America isEl Paso, Texas. It happens to be across the border from the mostdangerous city in the Americas, which is Juarez. Right?”
“And two of the safest cities in America, two of them are on theborder with Mexico,” Garcia continued. “And of course, the reason iswe’ve proved that Communism works. If you give everybody a goodgovernment job, there’s no crime.”
“But that isn’t what we should be doing on the border,” hecontinued. “The kind of money we’ve poured into it, and we’re havingdiminishing returns.”
Garcia explained to Breitbart News on Wednesday his remarks saying, the border–the safest city in America happens to be El Paso, TX. Weare blowing money just like Communists. Spending and throwing outall this money at a problem, and the truth is what we need iscomprehensive immigration reform.”
So is Garcia saying that Communism works?
“Listen, I’ve spent my entire life fighting communism. Bringingrefugees from 3rd [world] countries. Working for a group that worksfor human rights. The assertion is absurd and patently absurd on itsface.”
