Miss Beazley never got the worldwide attention that George W. Bush’s other Scottish terrier, Barney, received. Yet, according to the former President, “Beazley never held a grudge against him.”
According to Politico, Laura Bush received Miss Beazley as a birthday present in 2005. The nine-year-old dog passed away on Saturday after struggling with lymphoma.
Barney had been in the public eye quite a bit during Bush 43’s presidency and had even drawn the attention of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On one of Putin’s trip’s to the US, Barney, who always held a “spot in my heart,” according to Bush, was proudly introduced to Putin. “You call that a dog?” asked Bush’s Russian counterpart.
Bush recounted that a year later, when he visited Putin in Dascha just outside of Moscow, “Putin asked, ‘Would you like to meet my dog?’ Out bounds this huge hound, obviously much bigger than a Scottish Terrier. And Putin looks at me and says, ‘Bigger, stronger and faster than Barney.'”
Bush honored Beazley on Instagram with a photo that many dog owners could appreciate. Bush said that Laura and their two cats “will miss her.”
