Nancy Pelosi Tells Students to Be 'Disruptors'

Commencement exercises are being held all across the country as the school year draws to a close and speakers are doling out advice with abandon. At one such ceremony, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi urged students to be “disruptors.”

Former speaker of the House of Representatives and current House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D, CA) spoke to graduates of the University of California Berkeley on May 17 and urged them to use their new found knowledge to “disrupt” the economic system.

“Being called a disruptor is a high compliment,” Pelosi insisted. “You here at Berkeley are already disruptors in many ways.”

Pelosi also spoke of American’s First Amendment rights. “Now, it’s all about you–what you can do with your freedom to speak out, with the tools of our time: Instagram and YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.”

Pelosi’s comments on free speech come as several accomplished and high profile women have been forced to cancel appearances before several colleges due to protestors refusing to allow them to speak.

But even those speakers who are allowed to speak, few are conservatives.

Pelosi went on to flog all the current liberal shibboleths urging students to worry about such things as income inequality and climate change. Pelosi even took a moment to lambast the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United.

The Democrat complained that the court “equates money with speech, opening the floodgates to secret, special interest money in our elections.”

The former speaker did not mention the millions that special interests like unions have spent for decades on Democrat Party candidates.

Pelosi then told graduates that they should “disrupt” the system.

“Let’s restore power to the voices of the people, not the pockets of the privileged few,” Pelosi said. Then, in closing, she said, “My wish is that you will be disruptors when necessary, and that you enjoy every moment of it.”
