On May 12th the New Jersey Senate passed A2006, which bans detachable magazines with a larger than ten-round capacity and bans .22 rifles with fixed magazines larger than ten rounds.
On May 5th Breitbart News reported that this bill passed out of committee on a vote of three to two (three Democrats to two Republicans) and that it would ban “43 rifles including .22 rifles like the Marlin Model 60, Remington Nylon 66, and Winchester 190.”
According to NJ.com, the difference between the bill that passed out of committee and the bill that passed the full senate is that the latter contains an exemption for the Marlin Model 60. Because of this change “the lower house will have to pass [A2006]… once more before” it reaches Governor Chris Christie’s desk.
The bill gives New Jersey residents 180 days to “transfer, render inoperable, or voluntarily surrender” magazines holding more than ten rounds.
Bill sponsor State Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37) said the bill is a “way to fulfill a promise” to stand with the parents who lost children during Adam Lanza’s heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary.
