House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi went after Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on Friday for comments he made on Fox News. “I think the Chairman is already calling this an investigation. I think he called it a trial. I think that tells you all you need to know,” Pelosi said as she read to reporters Gowdy’s remarks.
“Then the objective chairman says, ‘I don’t want this to be a circus.’ I think your chairman is saying some things that are looking circus-like. For example, ‘Well I have evidence,’ Trey Gowdy said. ‘that they’re not only hiding it, there’s an intent to hide it. I can’t disclose that evidence yet, but I have evidence that there was a systematic intentional decision to withhold certain documents from Congress.’ Is that the statement of a fair trial by the Chairman of the Committee, if he’s calling it a trial?”
Chairman Gowdy spoke with Breitbart News on Friday about how he plans to conduct the Benghazi Select Committee saying, “We are going to look at all facts and all documents.”
House Speaker John Boehner announced the other Republicans on the Select Committee on Friday afternoon: Reps. Susan Brooks (R-IN), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Mike Pompeo (R-KS), Martha Roby (R-AL), Peter Roskam (R-IL), and Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA).
Prior to the announcement, Gowdy said he was “looking for fair-minded people that value a fair process and that are hardworking.” to join him on the Committee. “I told the Speaker I want to be the dumbest one on the Committee and he said that shouldn’t be a problem.”
