While people like Michael Bloomberg lump suicides and firearm-related murders together to inflate gun violence numbers in a bid for more gun control, the FBI issues reports like the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment to demonstrate that, on average, “48 percent of violent crime in most jurisdictions” is gang-related.
This number is as high as 90 percent in some jurisdictions.
In other words, hardened, often dangerous, criminals are committing somewhere between 50 and 90 percent of the violent crimes in our country. However, Bloomberg, President Obama, Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mark Begich (D-AK), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), and others are pointing to that violent crime as justification for making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to get firearms, even as these citizens use those firearms to defend themselves from criminal violence.
