House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said on Thursday that Obamacare is unlikely to be repealed and therefore, “We need to look at reforming the exchanges.”
McMorris Rodgers’s controversial remarks were made during an interview with The Spokesman-Review. Conservatives have interpreted her remarks as akin to surrender on repealing President Barack Obama’s unpopular health care program.
In her remarks, McMorris Rodgers made clear she opposes Obamacare and has voted several times to repeal portions of the law.
“It is a top-down, one-size-fits-all approach to health care,” said McMorris Rodgers. “You’re seeing where they’ve had to reduce programs for the very people it’s meant to help. Somebody’s going to have to pay the bill.”
The latest Fox News poll reveals that the all-important Independent voting bloc overwhelmingly favors anti-Obamacare candidates by a 25% margin.
