The nation’s leading organization that engages politically to expand access to abortion is celebrating with a “Pro-Choice/Pro-Chocolate” competitive event.
NARAL states the event is back “by popular demand” and will be held on May 8th in Philadelphia at The Ethical Society Building. According to the website, participants will be invited to “mingle with your pro-choice friends and enjoy delicious chocolate treats, champagne, coffee, tea – and even a chocolate martini fountain!”
Chocolate submissions by “some of Philadelphia’s most talented chocolatiers and pastry chefs” will be competing for judges’ prizes and the People’s Choice Award.
The evening’s special guest will be Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL. Participating celebrity judges will be Sally Kohn, CNN contributor and columnist for the Daily Beast; Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes; Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims; former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Murphy; and Philadelphia City Council member Cindy Bass.
Tickets to the event range from $50, which purchases one ticket, to the “Connoisseur” $1,000 level, which gets the buyer 16 tickets to the event, four mugs, a large sampler box of chocolate treats, a listing in the invitation and program, and an acknowledgment at the event.
Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, told Breitbart News that NARAL’s event demonstrates two dynamics of the abortion industry.
“One is the shameless marketing effort to sell evil by making it look good,” Pavone said.
He added:
The other, which I see all the time as I work with former abortion clinic workers through the Society of Centurions, is the psychological need of these men and women to compensate for the tremendous guilt and stress which are generated from making a living by killing babies.
“The abortion providers compensate by making light of a tremendous evil, trying literally to ‘sweeten’ it, as this latest example shows,” Pavone continued. “We have seen them make jokes and play games with abortion and with the bodies of the aborted babies. It’s disgusting, but for them it’s a way of dealing with the guilt and shame.”
“When a majority of Americans learn that an organization that supports the killing of preborn babies up until the moment of birth, when they can feel excruciating pain, is hosting a light-hearted chocolate celebration, they are shocked,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America (SFLA), told Breitbart News regarding the NARAL event. “Sadly, though, those who will attend this chocolate extravaganza in honor of the killing won’t think twice. They’ve disconnected the actual procedure of abortion from the ‘we want equality’ rhetoric that NARAL/Pro-Choice America often uses.”
Hawkins commented on the relationship between the name changes NARAL has made and the organization’s attempt to maintain political relevance as more Americans identify as pro-life and many states have introduced health and safety restrictions on abortion clinics.
Hawkins stated:
One can look no further than NARAL’s name change from the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights League, and before that the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, to Pro-Choice America, to see that separating abortion from pro-choice has become critical to carrying on its mission. They know just as well as we do that organizations like themselves are in the minority.
