Jimmy Carter's Grandson: Georgians Have Right to Confederate Flag License Plates

On April 21st Georgia State Senator Jason Carter (D-Decatur), grandson of former president Jimmy Carter, suggested that if elected to the office of governor “he will not stop the state from issuing license plates featuring the Confederate battle flag.”

According to The Washington Times, Carter said Georgians “have the right to sport the Sons of Confederate Veterans-backed license plates.”

The plates have been offered since 2003, and Carter said there are not going to be a lot of these plates issued. He said, “This is something for national folks to talk about. We are moving on.”

Carter also said “he would rather” focus on “the role that Georgia and its leaders played in the civil rights movement.” He added: “I would like to see us focus on that great legacy we have of Dr. King and Joseph Lowery and Andy Young.”
