Newly-retired Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius misspelled the name of her successor, Sylvia Burwell, in her final goodbye email to her HHS coworkers, reports Politico.
A Friday evening email titled “Thank you” read as follows:
“As you’ve no doubt heard by now, in the coming months I will be passing the baton to my friend and colleague, Sylvia Burrell [sic]…I’ve worked closely with Sylvia in her role as director of OMB. She is a skilled, strategic leader who I know will continue to improve health services for all Americans. I will continue the important work we have to do here until Sylvia is confirmed, and I am committed to doing what I can to help her–and to help you–during this transition.”
Sebelius’s latest humiliation comes fresh on the heels of her Rose Garden farewell speech wherein a page was missing from her teleprompter script.
Politico’s Mike Allen dubbed the spelling snafu “Sebelius’ final indignity.”
